A former Agriculture Research and Production Assistant was arrested for accepting a bribe

The Investigation Officers of CIABOC have arrested a former Agriculture Research and Production Assistant who currently serves as the Chairperson of D-43, Sonuththa farmers’ Organization on alleged soliciting and accepting a bribe of Rs. 60,000/= on 25.10.2022 in accordance with a complaint received to the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption.

In the process of preparing the deeds for the two plots of Goda and Mada land belonging to the government in Sonutta area which are currently being utilized by the complainant and her family, the suspect had solicited Rs.50,000/= to grant a letter confirming the utilization of the respective land to be given to the Land Commissioner's Office, Mahiyanganaya and that amount of money had been accepted by him from time to time.Later, the above suspect had solicited Rs.60,000/= as a bribe to facilitate and to take necessary actions to provide the same letter again along with the letter of the Agrarian Development Officer and he was thus arrested when he had solicited and accepted the said Rs.60,000/= as a bribe near People’s Bank, Hettipola.
