The former General Manager of the Land Reclamation and Development Corporation, Sujith Priyantha Muthumala, was arrested at the Bribery Commission on 17th June 2025 for committing the offence of corruption by conferring a benefit to an institution by violating the procurement procedures in selecting an institution to handle matters of the Werans River Project 1st phase opening ceremony, and by causing a loss to the government through spending Rs. 27.6 million for the event when no such allocation was there from the project funds.
