A Chief Inspector attached to the Okkampitiya Police Station arrested

Following a complaint lodged by a businessman from the Okkampitiya Gaminipura area, Investigation Officers of the Commission arrested a Chief Inspector of the Okkampitiya Police Station while accepting a bribe of Rs. 40,000.

The said Chief Inspector allegedly solicited a monthly bribe of Rs. 50,000 from the complainant to ensure that his sand-selling business is carried out without interference and that no legal action would be taken during the transportation of sand from the mining site to the stores. He has accepted Rs. 47,000 on several occasions and again demanded three cubes of sand or Rs. 45,000—the cost of the sand—for the construction of his house, to ensure continued support for the sand business. The bribe amount was later reduced to Rs. 40,000, and on 29th July 2025, the CI was arrested near Weeragus Junction on the Maligawila-Monaragala road while accepting the Rs. 40,000.
