Police Constable pleaded guilty for the charge of accepting bribe of Rs.10,000/-

Police Constable (PC43903, Dompe Police Station), Jayawardana Mudiyanselage Nimal Ratnayaka resident of No.165 D, Belummahara, Polhena Junction, Delegoda, pleaded guilty on 01 to 08 counts of the indictment served against him by the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption for accepting a bribe of Rs.5,000/-, the balance amount of the total bribe of Rs.10,000/- solicited from the complainant, Withanage Dinesh Chandana resident of No.320, Kumbalvilawatta, Dompe to refrain from taking legal action against the offence of possessing of cannabis with the complainant.

The accused was ordered rigorous imprisonment of two years effecting three months for each count and suspended for a term of 10 years. A fine of Rs.40, 000/- by Rs.5,000/- for each count was ordered with a term of 06months rigorous imprisonment in default of payment. Furthermore, it was ordered under Section 26 of Bribery Act to recover Rs.10,000, the bribe received by the accused with a term of 06 month rigorous imprisonment in default of payment. The judgement was given by the Hon. Judge of No.06 High Court, Mr.A.M.K Patabedige. The prosecution was conducted by Assistant Director (Legal) Miss. B.W.U.M. Kumarihami of the Bribery Commission. The investigation conducted by Chief Inspector, Pushpakumara.
