Investigation Officers of the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption arrested a Labour Officer at around 1844 hours on 18.01.2024.

According to a complaint made by a person in the Maradamunei area, the said Labour Officer has solicited and accepted a bribe of Rs. 10,000/- from the complainant for halting the investigations on a petition Ampara Labour Office has received against the complainant. The petition against the complaint was said to be on defaulting the Employee Provident Fund contribution payment of employees of his hotel. The said Labour Officer was arrested before Hotel Al Kayam, Maradamunei on allegations of soliciting and accepting a bribe.
