The Investigation Officers of CIABOC have arrested the Grama Niladhari of No-64 Sinhapura Grama Niladhari division under the Divisional Secretariat of
Lunugamvehera on alleged soliciting and receiving a bribe of Rs. 25,000/ on 01.2021 in accordance with a complaint lodged by a resident in Weerawila.
The Investigation Officers of CIABOC have arrested a Public Health Inspector assigned to the Office of the Medical Officer of Health, Udubedda on 12.01.2021 when soliciting and receiving a bribe of Rs. 20,000/- to abstain from taking legal actions by the PHI so as to carry out the meat trade of the complainant without any disturbance and to provide the necessary reports to carry out his cattle slaughterhouse without any hindrance.
On a complaint received from a resident of Kandy area, the Investigation Officers of CIABOC have arrested two members of Kandy Municipal Council on 05.01.2021 in a vehicle park of a private hospital on alleged receiving of a bribe of Rs.150, 000/-.
Upon a complaint received by the hotline of the Commission (1954) from a resident of Thissamaharama, Kohombagaha Pelessa area, the Investigation Officers of CIABOC have arrested a Measurement Units Services Assistant attached to the Department of Measurement Units, Standards and Services in Hambantota – Administrative Complex on 30.12.2020 for receiving a bribe of Rs.900/-.
On a complaint received from a resident of Anuradhapura, Godage Mawatha, the Investigation Officers of CIABOC have arrested acting OIC of Fire Fighting Unit of Anuradhapura Municipal Council on 28.12.2020 when receiving a bribe of Rs.29,000/-.
The Investigation Officers of CIABOC have arrested a Management Assistant officer of Road Passengers Transport Authority on 14.12.2020 on a complaint lodged to the hotline 1954 by a Bus Driver in Godakawela area on alleged soliciting and receiving of bribe. The arrest was taken place in the bus-stand adjoining the Department of Agricultural Export when receiving a bribe of Rs.100,000/- of the total solicited amount of Rs.250,000/- to issue a route permit for a bus owned by a sister of the complainant bus driver.
A female Inspector of Measurement Services Devices attached to Ratnapura Branch of the Department of Measurement Units Standards and Services was arrested on 11.12.2020 by the Investigation Officers of CIABOC on a complaint received from a businessman of Balangoda area. The arrest was taken place in front of main bus stand of Balangoda when receiving a bribe of Rs.12600/- solicited from businessmen in the area to certify that 42 electronic scales of the businessmen are in appropriate standards for scaling. The suspect had solicited Rs.300/- for each electronic scale.
H.E. the President has appointed following members to the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption in terms of the Article 41(A) of the Constitution of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka and Sub-section (2) (2) (b) of the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption Act No.19 of 1994.
Bribery and corruption are rooted in each and every dynamic sectors have been internationally identified as the major obstacle of forward march of a country. The menace of bribery and corruption has prevented genuine individuals by receiving what they deserve and opened doors for undue earnings for undeserved by converting good missions into negative aspects shattering the entire mechanism.
On a complaint received to the hotline - 1954 of the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption from a resident of Embilipitiya New Town, the Investigation Officers of the Commission conducted a raid and arrested the Principal of Embilipitiya President’s College nearby school playground on the charge of receiving a bribe of Rs.150, 000/- on 02.12.2020.
The Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruptions has recruited 11 Legal Assistants and 07 Stenographers/ Typists with effect from 15.10.2020. The letters of appointments were awarded by the Director General of the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruptions on 15.10.2020 and one week induction training was conducted from the date of appointment.
