Based on a complaint made by a female resident of Karadiyanaru, Investigation Officers of the Commission yesterday (29.04.2025) arrested the Public Health Inspector (PHI) attached to the Karadiyanaru PHI office while accepting a bribe at the complainant’s residence. According to the complainant, the PHI, having inspected the complainant’s house, which is under construction, has stated that it is an offence to carry out construction without an approved plan and will be fined Rs. 50,000 if legal action is taken. He has then solicited Rs. 12,000/- from the complainant, pledging not to take action against her. He has also promised the necessary arrangements for her to continue construction without any hindrance. He has further promised her to draw the plan and get the approval for it himself. Accordingly, he has initially accepted Rs. 5,000/- from the solicited amount, and the arrest was made while accepting Rs. 6,000/- of the remaining amount.
