Sentence Imposed on Postal Department Office Employee Assistant who Solicited a Bribe of Rs. 11,000/-

Ramawickrama Gamarachchige Ruwan was sentenced for the charges of soliciting and accepting Eleven Thousand Rupees from a businessman of Meerigama to release 30 imported CCTV cameras from the International Express Service Branch of the Central Mail Exchange without tax. The case was filed under case No. HCB176/22.

Accordingly, on 06th February 2025, the accused was convicted of 04 charges and was sentenced to 28 years of rigorous imprisonment, as four years for each charge, running concurrently to complete in 07 years. In addition, a fine of Rs. 5,000 was imposed for the 04 charges and a 06-month jail term in default of each payment. Further, a penalty of Rs. 11,000 was also imposed on him. Another Rs. 11,000/- was imposed for the third count.

Colombo High Court No. 04 Judge Mahesh Weeraman delivered the judgement, and Mr. Gayan Maduwage, Assistant Director-Legal, appeared on behalf of the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption.
