Sentence Imposed on Female Resident of Avissawella for Offering a Bribe of Rs. 150,000/-

Gode Vithanage Anusha Sanjeewanie Senanayake was sentenced for the charges of offering one hundred and fifty thousand rupees to a Chief Inspector (CI) of the Awissavella Police Station (Complainant) as an inducement for filing the case against her for the offence of keeping cannabis instead of smuggling them. The case was filed under case No. HCB 290/24.

Accordingly, on 10th February 2025, the accused was sentenced to two years of rigorous imprisonment and suspended for 15 years. In addition, she was ordered to pay a fine of Rs. 5,000/- and serve a 06-month jail term in default of payment of the fine. The bribe money of Rs. 150,000/- was confiscated.

Colombo High Court No. 07 Judge Pradeep Abeyratne delivered the judgement, and Mrs. Thushari Dayaratne, Assistant Director-General, appeared on behalf of the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption..
