An official worked as a Management Assistant in Immigration and Emigration Department has been convicted under the CASE No HCB 231/2023 for a bribery charge on 20-20-2025 in High Court No 03 before Hon.Highe Cour judge Mr.Manjula Thilakeratne.
The aforesaid accused was arrested on 20-01-2020 in a raid conducted by the CIABOC for the acceptance of Rs.5000 from the complainant of this matter. The acceptance was done for do the necessities to get the dual citizenship to the infant daughter of the complainet.
The CIABOC has field indictment in High Court No 03 on 24-05-2023 under the section 19b and 19c of the Bribery Act.
The accused pleaded guilty for the all charges of the indictment on 20-20-2025. And the Hon High Court judge has imposed punishments as follows;
- 2 years Rigorous Imprisonment for the each charge and suspended for the 5 years
- Rs 20000 fine
- Rs 6000 penalty imposed under the section 26 of the Bribery Act
