The High Court took action to extend the freezing order Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption issued on the fixed deposits worth Rs. 97.125 Mn in a private bank and life insurance policies belonging to former Health Minister Keheliya Rambukwella’s wife, three daughters and one son-in-law, until 04.10.2024.

The one-day training for Integrity Officers in the Southern Province, which the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption conducted with the support of the Ministry of Public Administration, Home Affairs, Provincial Councils and Local Government and sponsorship of the JURE project and funding of the European Union and UNDP, concluded successfully on 18th May 2024 at Hotel Citrus, Hikkaduwa. The training was conducted under the theme, “Towards a Country of Integrity” envisioned in the National Action Plan for Combatting Bribery or Corruption in Sri Lanka.

The corruption prevention programme aimed at combatting bribery and corruption in Sri Lanka was held for newly recruited Grama Nildhari Officers of Anuradhapura district on 24th July 2024.

Based on a complaint made by a resident in Minneriya, Investigation Officers of the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption arrested the Summons Server/Writ Executor of Hingurakgoda District/Magistrate’s Court at around 11.20 a.m. on 03.07.2024. According to the complainant, the suspect has solicited Rs. 25,000/- to make the necessary arrangements to postpone a case scheduled for hearing on 31.07.2024 by two years. The solicited amount was later reduced to Rs. 20,000/- and, was arrested inside the Panchkarama Treatment Hospital, Minneriya.

Based on a complaint lodged by a resident in Wattala, Palliayawatta, Investigation Officers of the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption arrested an IP of Mahabage Police Station at around 02.13 p.m. on 03.07.2024. According to the complainant, the IP has solicited and accepted a bribe of Rs. 25,000/-, promising to do the needful for him to pay the amount of two returned cheques in monthly instalments upon inquiring the complaint lodged against him on the two returned cheques, and not to produce him before the court.The arrest was made before the Abans Showroom near Mahabage Police Station on allegations of soliciting and accepting a bribe.

The Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption conducted investigations in relation to a complaint received regarding the solicitation of Rs. 200,000 as a bribe and accepting Rs. 150,000/- of the amount by a Principal of a reputed school in Panadura.

The Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption, under the funding of the JURE project of UNDP and in collaboration with the Ministry of Public Administration, Home Affairs, Provincial Councils and Local Government, conducts Training of Trainers (TOT) programmes. These TOT programmes are conducted under the theme, “ Towards a Country of Integrity”, and its final programme was conducted successfully in the Southern Province. Accordingly, it has now completed 09 programmes of this series.

Based on a complaint made by a civilian, the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption commenced investigations into the misuse of two official vehicles by the former Health Minister, Keheliya Rambukwella, without returning even after losing the ministerial portfolio.

Based on a complaint made by a resident in Hantana Road, Kandy, Investigation Officers of the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption arrested a Grama Niladhari serving in Gangawata Korale Divisional Secretariat. According to the complainant, Grama Niladhari has solicited Rs. 25,000/- (Twenty five thousand) as a bribe to abstain from performing the official duties in relation to issuing the certificate of residence required for her son to get electricity to two rooms of her residence without her consent. The arrest was made at around 12.19 p.m. on 25.06.2024 inside the Heeressagala Grama Niladhari office while accepting the said bribe.

“The Programme to Establish Integrity Clubs in Schools” organized by the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption and the United Nations Development Programme to endow a “Generation devoid of bribery and corruption” was held on 12th June 2024 at Hotel Kanvel, Monaragala.

The Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption conducted a Corruption Prevention Programme for 128 newly recruited Police Constables. The programme was conducted on 24th June 2024 at the Elpitiya Police Training College, and Prevention Officers Mrs. J. L. A. Udeshika Madhubashini and Mrs. Chamodi Jayasinghe provided the resource contribution for the programme. Participants were made aware of the concept of integrity, legal provisions related to bribery, corruption and illegal accumulation of assets, and the issues they have in that regard.
