Police Sergeant solicited and accepted a bottle of arrack as a bribe, and a sanitary labourer aided and abetted him, arrested on bribery allegations

Based on a complaint received by the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption, Commission’s Investigation Officers arrested a Sergeant attached to Keselwatta Police Station on allegations of soliciting and accepting a bottle of arrack worth Rs. 3640/- as a bribe and a Sanitary Labourer serving for a Cleaning Service Agency for aiding and abetting him. According to the complaint, the arrested Sergeant has solicited the bribe to get the signature and seal of the officer handling court matters to claim the money of the reward the Sri Lanka Police had presented to the complainant for arresting drunk drivers while he was serving attached to Welikada Police Station. The two suspects were arrested at 1.50 p.m. and 1.35 p.m. on 26.09.2024 at the Hulftsdorp Magistrate’s Court No. 07 premises.
