Deputy Commissioner, Development Assistant at the Department of Motor Traffic and a broker  arrested on allegations of soliciting and accepting a bribe to transfer the ownership of three buses

Based on a complaint made by a businessman in Polgahawela, Investigation Officers of the Commission arrested the Deputy Commissioner  (Bus & Lorry Transfer Division), a Development Assistant at the Department of Motor Traffic (DMT) and a broker on allegations of soliciting and accepting a bribe. The bribe has been solicited to transfer the ownership of three buses to the complainant after the completion of their leasing payments.   The arrest was made between 3.20 p.m. and 3.30 p.m. on 04.10.2024 at DMT premises.

 Accordingly, the charges against the three accused are,

  1. The first suspect, a labourer at the DMT whose service has been suspended on bribery allegations, has accepted Rs. 50,000/- as the advance of the bribe and solicited and accepted the balanceof Rs. 150,000/- stating that it was for the officers.
  2. The second suspect, the Development Officer, has solicited and accepted Rs. 50,000/- from the first suspect as an advance and solicited and accepted the balance of 150,000/- from the first suspect.
  3. The third suspect, the Deputy Commissioner, has solicited a bribe of Rs. 150,000 through the second suspect, aiding and abetting the broker and the subject clerk to accept the bribe, conspiracy, and inducement.
