An accused pleaded guilty before the courts.

An accused of a Bribery case who had promised Rs. 500,000/- and had offered Rs. 250,000/- to OIC-Horowpathana, as a motive to release a suspect who was in remand custody over an allegation of terrorist activities, has pleaded guilty before the High Court of Colombo for all charges.

The Colombo High Court today sentenced the accused to one year rigorous imprisonment and a fine of Rs. 5,000 for each of the two charges. Considering the accused plea of guilt at the first available opportunity, the sentence was suspended for 15 years.

The case was filed in the High Court after the suspect was arrested at the time of offering the bribe to the OIC, in a raid conducted by the Bribery Commission officials, following a complaint made against the same.
