The Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption conducts the first raid in the Private Sector

The Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption was so far entrusted with the authority of taking action against bribery and corruption only in the Public Sector. Superceding the said authority, Anti-Corruption Act No. 09 of 2023 has empowered the Commission with the authority of taking action against the bribery and corruption within the Private Sector as well. Accordingly, the first raid on a bribery incident in the Private Sector was conducted on January 26, 2024, with the approval of the Commission.

Investigation Officers of the Commission arrested an Accountant cum Manager (Human Resources) of a private Hotel in Dambulla at around 0804 hours today (26.01.2024) on a complaint made by a woman employee of the hotel. The suspect has solicited a sexual gratification from the complainant promising to pay her the full service charge amount, instead of the 75% she is paid at present, and to confirm her in the post, and has accompanied her to a hotel in Habarana. The suspect was arrested inside the hotel room on allegations of soliciting and accepting a sexual gratification.
