CIABOC instituted an action in High Court against a labour officer attached to the Mathale District Labour office for soliciting and accepting Rs. 150,000/= in order to prevent from taking legal actions for the non –payment of EPF to the workers of his Garage. The accused was taken into custody in a raid organized by CIABOC.

Hon. High Court Judge Mr.Manjula Thilakarathne convicted the accused on 21/05/2019 for all four counts in the indictment and imposed a sentence of 3 years rigorous imprisonment for the 01st and 02nd counts and 04 years rigorous imprisonment for the 3rd and 04th counts. Sentence to be run concurrently and Rs.5000/- fine on each count carrying with a 01 month each default sentence.
Further, a penalty of Rs. 150,000/= was imposed as per the section 26 of the Bribery Act carrying with a 06 months default sentence.
The prosecution was led by Mrs. Anuththara Jayasinghe, (ADL) and Mrs. Thushari Dayarathne (ADL) of the CIABOC.
