A Management Assistant served at the Ministry of Health was convicted guilty on 04 counts of the indictment served against him by the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption for soliciting and accepting a gratification of Rs. 20,000/- from a Consultant Physician to prepare his salary related to the foreign leave period.
The Accused was ordered rigorous imprisonment for a period of 06 months for each count and suspended for a term of 5 years. A fine of Rs. 20,000/- by Rs. 5,000/- for each count was ordered with a term of 04 months imprisonment in default of payment. Furthermore, it was ordered to recover a fine of Rs. 20,000/-, the bribe received by the accused. The judgement was given by the Hon. Judge of No. 05 High Court, Colombo, Mr. Manjula Thilakarathne on 23.03.2021.
