Suspended sentence of two years and fine imposed on Office Employee Assistant of the Ceylon Electricity Board

Colombo High Court Judge Amal Ranaraja sentenced an Office Employee Assistant of the Ceylon Electricity Board on 19.02.2024 after pleading guilty for the charges in case number HCB 66/2020 which the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption filed against him for soliciting and accepting of a bribe of Rs. 5,000/.

Accordingly, the learned Judge sentenced a two-year imprisonment each for the 06 charges to run concurrently, and suspended for 05 years. Further, a fine of Rs. five thousand (Rs. 5000/-) was imposed for each count, amounting to a total of Rs. Thirty Thousand (Rs. 30,000/-, and ordered a penalty of Rs. 5000/. under Section26 of the Bribery Act, No. 11 of 1954.
