Five-year suspended sentence and fine imposed on a civil person in Beruwala

Colombo High Court 04 Judge Adithya Patabendige sentenced a civil person in Beruwala on 19.07.2024 after he pleaded guilty to the 02 charges filed against him in case HCB 208/2022. The Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption filed this case against him for offering Rs. 25,000/- to the OIC of Beruwala Police Station.

Accordingly, the court ordered a one-year rigorous imprisonment for each charge suspended for 05 years and a fine of Rs. 10,000. The Rs. 25,000/- was confiscated.

Mrs. Anuradha Siriwardene, Assistant Director General, appeared for the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption.
