Vehicles that had not undergone Customs clearance handed back to the Customs

The Confidential and Intelligence Investigation Unit of the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption conducted an investigation into the vehicles that did not undergo customs clearance. Accordingly, three vehicles taken into custody by that investigation were produced before the Colombo Chief Magistrate and Magistrate Thilina Gamage ordered Sri Lanka Customs on 23.08.2024 to take them into their custody for further investigation.

Warrants were issued to arrest the individuals who did not surrender their vehicles to the Commission as per the Court order, and the Colombo Chief Magistrate ordered the individuals who extended the date for surrendering vehicles to surrender them to the Commission before 11.09.2024.

The Court further ordered the Commission to expedite investigations into the officers of Sri Lanka Customs and the Department of Motor Traffic who assisted in importing and registering those vehicles. The case was scheduled for hearing again on 18.09.2024.
