Parliament on 22.01.2019 (yesterday) passed the Commissions of Inquiry (Amendment) Act.

The amendment Bill was a proposal of the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC) submitted to the President’s Secretariat. The amendment Bill approved by the Cabinet was tabled before the Parliament.

This amendment Act empowers the Bribery Commission to institute criminal proceedings for offences under the Bribery Act and the Declaration of Assets and Liabilities Law based on the material collected by a Commission of Inquiry. Accordingly, it is not mandatory for CIABOC to re-record the statements of the witnesses who already had given evidence before a Commission of Inquiry. This amendment Act enables CIABOC to conclude related investigations in an expeditious manner.
