Based on a complaint made by a resident in Hantana Road, Kandy, Investigation Officers of the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption arrested a Grama Niladhari serving in Gangawata Korale Divisional Secretariat. According to the complainant, Grama Niladhari has solicited Rs. 25,000/- (Twenty five thousand) as a bribe to abstain from performing the official duties in relation to issuing the certificate of residence required for her son to get electricity to two rooms of her residence without her consent. The arrest was made at around 12.19 p.m. on 25.06.2024 inside the Heeressagala Grama Niladhari office while accepting the said bribe.
