Based on a complaint lodged by a former Chairman of the Public Utilities Commission, Investigation Officers of the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption arrested eight persons, including members of the Eksath Lanka Podujana Party and civilians, at around 2.10 p.m. on 14.08.2024 on allegations of soliciting and accepting Rs. 30 million as a bribe, and aiding and abetting it, promising to allow contesting as the Party’s candidate for 2024 Presidential Election. The arrest was made inside the former Eksath Janatha Podujana Party Secretary’s office on the second floor of the Plaza Building, Welikada.
