Based on a complaint made by a resident of Liyannawatta in Walagedara, Investigation Officers of the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption arrested a Sergeant attached to the Matugama Police Station at around 7.15 p.m. yesterday (15.01.2025). The arrest was made on allegations of bribery. According to the complainant, he has been driving a lorry from Matugama to Agalawatta on 14.01.2025, and the vehicle was stopped on the way to check the license. As the heavy-vehicle class of his license has expired, the said Sergeant took the driving license into his custody and demanded Rs. 5,000/- to return it without going for legal action. The arrest was made while accepting Rs.3,000/- from the solicited amount.
