In keeping with the provision of the Right to Information Act No.12 of 2016, the official website of the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption has been re-launched on 20th December 2017 (today). This occasion was graced by the Chairman, Justice of the Supreme Court T.B.Weerasuriya, Commissioner Justice of Appeal Court W. Lal Ranjith Silva and Commissioner Mr. Neville Guruge and the President’s Counsel Mr.SarathJayamanne, Director General of the Commission, civil organizations and media personnel.
Indictment has been filed on 30th November 2017 against the former Minister Wimal Weerawansa under Section 23(A) of the Bribery Act on the presumption that the source of Rs.50Million which he had spent exceeding the known income during the period of 2009 – 2014 was acquired by bribery.
Three Police Officers attached to the Traffic Division of Polgahawela Police Station were taken into custody on 14.12.2017 by the Investigation Officers of CIABOC when obtaining a bribe of Rs.3,000/-.
This year the International Anti-Corruption Day commemoration was held at the Grand Marquee Hall – Taj Samudra Colombo on 9th December 2017 from 9.00 am. to 12.30 pm. with the participation of 150 Civil Society members from Colombo and suburbs as well as 100 student officers of Apprentice Training Institution.
20 years rigorous imprisonment by 5 years for each charge for the Technical Officer of Elahera Divisional Secretariat.
4years rigorous imprisonment for a Police Sergeant attached to the Kekirawa Police Station.
On 25.10.2017, the Investigation Officers of CIABOC have apprehended a Temporary Valuer of People’s Insurance Company, a subsidiary of People’s Bank when obtaininga bribe of Rs.5,000/- to issue a valuation report for an insurance claim related to an accident of a private bus.
