Person Attempted to Offer Bribe Sentenced to Two Years Rigorous Imprisonment

The accused, a resident of Rukmale-Pannipitiya, has attempted to offer a bribe of Rs. 25,000/- in exchange for not taking legal action against the suspects arrested in the raid conducted in relation to illegal earth digging in Bendigama South.

The accused pleaded guilty when the case was tried before Colombo High Court No. 04 Judge Mahesh Weeraman on 11.09.2024. The accused was sentenced to two years of rigorous imprisonment and suspended for 10 years. Additionally, the Judge ordered him to pay a fine of rupees hundred thousand and confiscated the Rs. 25,000/-.
