Residential Workshop for Law Officers of the CIABOC

The Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC) in collaboration with the UNDP Sri Lanka under ‘JURE’ Project conducted a three-day Residential Workshop from 21st to 23rd July, 2023 at Hotel Blue Waters, Wadduwa, comprising number of capacity building sessions.

On the First Day, Mr. Janaka Bandara, Deputy Solicitor General, Attorney General’s Department, shared his expertise on ‘Case Mapping; Investigation to Appeal’. At the end of the session, two of the participants presented an engrossing Mock Trail.

On the Second Day, the participants had the honor of having His Lordship, Justice Preethi Padman Surasena, P.C., Judge of the Supreme Court as a Resource Person sharing His Lordship’s informative and intriguing insights on ‘Appeals and Revisions; Advocacy Perspective’. In the afternoon, productive sessions on ‘Examination of Witnesses in Criminal Trail’ and ‘Role of the Prosecutor in the eyes of a Judge’ were conducted by Hon. A. K. M. Patabendige and Hon. H. M. R. Manjula Thilakaratne, Judges of the High Court respectively followed by a panel discussion which led in intensifying the knowledge and capacity of CIABOC Law officers in effective High Court Prosecutions.

On the Third Day, Ms. Ayesha Jinasena, P.C., Senior Additional Solicitor General, Attorney General’s Department, enlightened the audience on ‘Challenges in Assets Prosecutions’. Secondly, a feasible discourse on ‘Prosecuting Corruption Cases’ was conducted by Mr. Dilan Ratnayake, Senior Deputy Solicitor General, Attorney General’s Department.

These sessions immensely contributed in enhancing the knowledge and capacity of the Law officers of the CIABOC.
