On 19.11.2024, the OIC of the Confidential and Intelligence Investigation Unit (CIIU) of the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption made a request to the Colombo Chief Magistrate Court to issue notice to a Deputy Commissioner, two Assistant Commissioners and five officials of the Department of Motor Traffic who were involved in the illegal registration, transfer and issuance of number plate to the Toyota Lexus jeep which the CIIU took into its custody during the investigations it conducted on illegally registered vehicles that circumvented Customs clearance, and to the importer of the vehicle. Considering the facts, Colombo Chief Magistrate Thilina Gamage issued notices to the 08 suspects ordering them to appear before the Colombo Magistrate Court on 29.11.2024 and fixed the next hearing date for 29.11.2024.
