On 16 January 2025, the Support to Selected Anti-Corruption Initiatives Project, focusing on the E Asset Declaration System, was launched at the CIABOC Main Auditorium in Colombo. The event marked a significant milestone in Sri Lanka’s ongoing efforts to enhance transparency, accountability, and governance within the public sector.
Justice W.M.N.P. Iddawela, Chairman of CIABOC, delivered the welcome remarks, emphasizing the project's importance in combating corruption and improving public sector transparency. He highlighted that the system aligns with Sri Lanka’s national priorities and the Anti-Corruption Act No. 09 of 2023. The initiative also supports Sri Lanka’s commitment to meeting the IMF structural benchmark due in June 2025. Justice Iddawela expressed gratitude to the project’s partners, including UNDP, ADB, and the Department of External Resources (ERD).
Ms. Azusa Kubota, UNDP Resident Representative, and Mr. Takafumi Kadono, ADB Country Director, spoke about their organizations’ critical roles in supporting the project and its alignment with global anti-corruption goals. Ms. Chandrika Karunaratne, Policy Specialist at UNDP, provided an overview of the project’s objectives, highlighting its potential to increase public sector accountability and reduce corruption.
A symbolic agreement-signing ceremony marked the formal commencement of the project. The event concluded with closing remarks by Mr. R.S.A. Dissanayake, Director General of CIABOC, who expressed gratitude to the partners and reaffirmed the system's significance in strengthening Sri Lanka’s anti-corruption framework and improving governance.
The event ended with a networking session, offering participants the opportunity to discuss the next steps of the initiative. The launch of this project, supported by CIABOC, UNDP, and ADB, represents a major step forward in Sri Lanka’s efforts to combat corruption and promote transparency in the public sector.
