Court of Appeal Dismisses the Writ Application of Former MP

The Court of Appeal on 29.08.2024 dismissed the Writ application of former MP Sujeewa Senasinghe, which he filed against the assets-related investigation the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption is conducting on a complaint it has received.

The Petitioner, Sujeewa Senasinghe, stating that he was notified to give a written sworn statement on his income, expenses and assets, and since the respondents have issued the notification without proper delegation of power, pleaded the Court of Appeal to dismiss the Commission’s decision to conduct an investigate against him. The Court of Appeal, having considered the objections raised on behalf of the respondents, dismissed his petition.

Solicitor General Ms. Ayesha Jinasena, Deputy Solicitor General Wasantha Perera, and Mr. Gayan Maduwage (Assistant Director-Legal) of the Commission appeared for the respondents.
