Colombo Chief Magistrate Miss. Lanka Jarathne has convicted a Police Officer attached to the Magistrate Court – Jaffna on charge of bribe. The accused was convicted for two counts of the indictment served by the Commission to Investigate Allegations of bribery or Corruption and acquitted for two counts. Further sentenced one year simple imprisonment for each charge and imposed a fine of Rs.10,000/- with a penalty of Rs.500/- in lieu of on month simple imprisonment.
The Investigation Officers of CIABOC have arrested a Driver of SLTB on 13.09.2020 when receiving a bribe of Rs.30,000/- solicited to offer employments in SLTB for two persons. The suspect had solicited Rs.50,000/- bribe for each person in total of Rs.100,000/-. The complainant of this raid had to provide these two persons to the suspect due to his assistance given to the complainant for reinstating the complainant’s husband once again in the service.
Refer to a complaint received, the Investigation Officers of the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption have arrested a Receiving Officer of Supplies and Services Division of the Parliament on 03.09.2020 for accepting a bribe of Rs.60,000/-.

The Investigation Officers of CIABOC have arrested a Sub Inspector attached to Horana Police Station on 26.08.2020 following a complaint received from a complainant in Gonapala area on alleged soliciting of sexual bribe. Suspect has been taken into custody in Ingiriya, Nambapana area when attempting to receive sexual bribe from the complainant to make necessary arrangements to issue a copy of a complaint lodged in the Police Station regarding the lost motorbike of the complainant’s son.
A person attempted to bribe a Police Sargent pleaded guilty in Chief Magistrate’s Court was sentenced 1-year rigorous imprisonment. The ruling was suspended for 5 years and imposed a fine of Rs.5000/- in default 1-month rigorous imprisonment was imposed. The verdict was declared in 2019.12.03.
The Investigation Officers of CIABOC have arrested a Railway Bucket Carrier attached to the Hunupitiya Railway Station on 19.08.2020 for accepting a bribe of Rs.9,000/-. The said suspect has solicited the bribe from the complainant to refrain from reporting the Department of Railways and abstain from taking legal action against the damage caused by the complainant to the railway gate by driving a lorry disrespecting railway signals.
The Investigation Officers of CIABOC have arrested Northern Province Acting Regional Manager of Sri Lanka Transport Board on 19.08.2020 for accepting a bribe of Rs.60,000 on a complaint received from an Accountant. The suspect has solicited the bribe of Rs.60,000/- from the complainant to assist in granting relief for the complainant in an inquiry being conducted against the complainant by the officers of the Head Office of Sri Lanka Transport Board in Jaffna.
The Investigation Officers of CIABOC have arrested a former Labourer of Port Authority for accepting a bribe of Rs.21,000/- on 18.08.2020. The suspect had solicited the bribe from the complainant to facilitate in offering a transfer to the complainant and to assist in providing a state land. The suspect had initially solicited Rs.26,000/- for this purpose and had arrested when receiving Rs.21,000/- of the same.
A Planning Officer was arrested on 18.08.2020 by the Investigation Officers of CIABOC when accepting a bribe of Rs. 50,000/- to complete the necessary work to grant the approval of the Urban Development Authority to accumulate a paddy land belonged to the complainant and to construct a building on the same.
