On a complaint received from a resident of Anuradhapura, Godage Mawatha, the Investigation Officers of CIABOC have arrested acting OIC of Fire Fighting Unit of Anuradhapura Municipal Council on 28.12.2020 when receiving a bribe of Rs.29,000/-.

The Investigation Officers of CIABOC have arrested a Management Assistant officer of Road Passengers Transport Authority on 14.12.2020 on a complaint lodged to the hotline 1954 by a Bus Driver in Godakawela area on alleged soliciting and receiving of bribe. The arrest was taken place in the bus-stand adjoining the Department of Agricultural Export when receiving a bribe of Rs.100,000/- of the total solicited amount of Rs.250,000/- to issue a route permit for a bus owned by a sister of the complainant bus driver.

A female Inspector of Measurement Services Devices attached to Ratnapura Branch of the Department of Measurement Units Standards and Services was arrested on 11.12.2020 by the Investigation Officers of CIABOC on a complaint received from a businessman of Balangoda area. The arrest was taken place in front of main bus stand of Balangoda when receiving a bribe of Rs.12600/- solicited from businessmen in the area to certify that 42 electronic scales of the businessmen are in appropriate standards for scaling. The suspect had solicited Rs.300/- for each electronic scale.

H.E. the President has appointed following members to the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption in terms of the Article 41(A) of the Constitution of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka and Sub-section (2) (2) (b) of the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption Act No.19 of 1994.

Bribery and corruption are rooted in each and every dynamic sectors have been internationally identified as the major obstacle of forward march of a country. The menace of bribery and corruption has prevented genuine individuals by receiving what they deserve and opened doors for undue earnings for undeserved by converting good missions into negative aspects shattering the entire mechanism.

On a complaint received to the hotline - 1954 of the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption from a resident of Embilipitiya New Town, the Investigation Officers of the Commission conducted a raid and arrested the Principal of Embilipitiya President’s College nearby school playground on the charge of receiving a bribe of Rs.150, 000/- on 02.12.2020.

The Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruptions has recruited 11 Legal Assistants and 07 Stenographers/ Typists with effect from 15.10.2020. The letters of appointments were awarded by the Director General of the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruptions on 15.10.2020 and one week induction training was conducted from the date of appointment.

In a raid conducted as per a complaint lodged by a resident of Wellawaya, Handapanagala via hotline 1954, the Investigation Officers of CIABOC have arrested the Director and a Planning Officer of Uva Province UDA on 15.10.2020 on alleged soliciting and receiving a bribe of Rs.14,000/-. The arrest took place when the Director of the Uva Province UDA was receiving the bribe of Rs.14,000/- which has been solicited by the Planning Officer from the complainant to assist in approving the plan of the complainant by providing favorable recommendations at the committee meeting of Wellawaya Pradeshiya Sabha.

The Investigation Officers of CIABOC have arrested a Beat Forest Officer of Thirappanai area on 14.10.2020 when receiving a bribe of Rs.35,000/-. The officer has solicited the bribe from the complainant in order to issue a certificate for a mobile saw-mill.

Upon a complaint received on 12.10.2020, the Investigation Officers of CIABOC have arrested the Deputy General Manger (Regulatory and Acting) of Condominium Management Authority in its office premises on 13.10.2020 on alleged soliciting and receiving a bribe of Rs.25,000/-. The suspect has solicited Rs.25, 000/- bribe from the complainant to issue a condominium certificate for 02 apartments built for sale by the complainant.

A Sub-Inspector attached to the Special Crime Division of Bandarawela Police Station was arrested on 06.10.2020 by the Investigation Officers of CIABOC on a complaint received from a person of Kanupelella, Badulla on alleged receiving a bribe of Rs.300,000/-. The suspect had solicited the bribe from the complainant to assist in releasing the complainant who had named as the 12th accused of a case proceeding in the Magistrate Court, Welimada and to alter as a state witness and furthermore to abstain from naming the complainant as a suspect of a case proceeding in the Magistrate Court, Kegalle.

On a complaint received from a female resident of Nathuduwa, Kelaniya area, the Investigation Officers of CIABOC have arrested a Water-meter Reader attached to the Water Board Regional Office, Kadawatha and an accomplice, retired person of Water Board, on 06.10.2020 when receiving a bribe of Rs.5,000/- from the complainant. The suspect has solicited the bribe from the complainant to reduce 77 units from the water bill of month of September 2020 and to reduce the actual amount to be paid.
