Eradication of bribery and corruption from a country requires a vision. That vision must be displayed to the entirety of the nation in the form of a Plan. This would ensure the support of the public in combating bribery and corruption. The government which came in to effect in the year 2015, realized this in October, 2017. As such, the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC) was entrusted with the task of formulating a National Action Plan for Combating Bribery and Corruption in Sri Lanka.

The officers of CIABOC have arrested an Office Assistant while accepting a bribe of Rs.5,000/- of the total solicited amount of Rs.10,000/- to assist the complainant to issue a permit to transport 85cubes of soil.  

A Police Constable solicited a bribe of Rs.10,000/- to maintain no-objection at the court to release a cab taken into custody by the Police has been arrested by the officers of CIABOC while accepting the bribe. 

A person who attempted to bribe OIC of Welikada Police Station was arrested by the officers of CIABOC on 25.02.2019 while offering a bribe of Rs.25,000/- requesting to release several suspects on police bail without producing them in the court.

The Principal of Anuladevi Balika Vidyalaya of Galle has been arrested on 13.02.2019 by the Investigation Officers of CIABOC when obtaining a bribe of Rs.100,000/- solicited from the complainant for the enrollment of her daughter to Grade I of the school.  

The interview for the recruitment of 17 Legal Assistants of this Commission has initiated. 287 candidates will appear for this interview. 

A Police Sergeant who solicited a bribe of Rs.2000/- was arrested by the officers of CIABOC on 08.02.2019 while receiving the bribe to abstain from taking legal actions against the complainant who handed over a cigarette to his son who has been arrested by the Police of Weliweriya for being addicted to drug.  

CIABOC instituted action against the Chairman of Pradeshiya Sabha Kalutara - Luxman Widanapathirana for soliciting and accepting Rs. 3 million in order to grant approval to construct an entrance road to a land purchased by a witness of this case.The accused was taken into custody in a raid organised by CIABOC.

Ms. Dulani Amarasinghe, predecessor Judge of Magistrate’s Court has sentenced 02 years rigorous imprisonment suspending for 05 year to the former Divisional Secretary of Hingurakgoda on 01.02.2019 during a trial proceeded on an anonymous complaint received by CIABOC.

Officers of CIABOC have arrested the Technical Officer of the Divisional Secretariat, Anuradhapura Nuwaragampalatha – Central on 01.02.2019 while receiving a bribe of Rs.10,000/- of the total amount of Rs.30,000/- to recommend the release of 10% retention security deposited for the construction of “Nila Piyasa” office building.
